TUB promotes
entreprenuership

Teen Upward Bound youth summer camp offers a unique experience for the youth in Opa-Locka and surrounding communities.   Youth have an opportunity to learn how to develop their own business ideas, participate team sports, and learn about positive peer relationships.  Over the course of six weeks, youth will have an opportunity to visit local business and college sports programs as well as pitch business ideas and hear from professionals from our community.  Our programs’ hours of operation accommodate the needs of parents/caregivers that do not work normal business hours and who are looking for a safe space for youth attending middle and high schools.

Principles

Youth complete a series of lessons on the computer and have group discussions and work in small groups throughout a six week period.  At the end of the summer, youth would have developed a complete business plan, marketing strategies, presentation/pitch to investors.

activity description

Entrepreneurial training will equip youth with an understanding of how business works, financial literacy, leadership development and methods to foster innovative ideas. Youth will apply this knowledge through the development of social and economic ventures. Key program activities include business plan development, training-based learning and networking opportunities.

approach to implementation

The National Standards for Financial Literacy provides an outline for teaching finance/business principles to middle and high schools. Youth increase knowledge and understanding that are fundamental to finance/business.
